It’s amazing to believe that a new builder would rather:
1. Spend time picking one of the many L1/L2 from the EVM ecosystem (may pick the wrong one a couple times and need to start from scratch)
2. Ask their users/early followers to bridge their funds to be able to use their product (multiple times)
3. Feed the L2 war (50% of their users end up not liking the L2 they eventually picked)
4. Explain and fight for their L2 choices
5. Build the app
6. Get new users
7. (And finally) start growing your company
Instead of (on Solana):
1. Build your app
2. Get new users
3. Start growing your company revenue
I can understand the investment bias, but you are not serious people when it comes to startup building
if you build in the evm, you get access to 99% of major chains—to megaeth and monad’s performance, ethereum and base’s liquidity, polygon and arbitrum’s resources.
if you build in the svm, you get one chain: solana. maybe two if we count fogo.
this is solana’s biggest threat. because if you’re a new builder or even a new chain, you’re going to build in the evm. the network effects are too great.
this is very different from a year ago, when solana was the only chain that could claim performance, liquidity, and distribution all at once. it was a powerful trifecta
but now there are many more—and they’re all evm. and that suggests future ones will be evm as well. so if you’re a builder who wants access to all the future performance, liquidity, and distribution of chains like tempo, you’re going to build evm as well.
solana is still one of the most cracked teams in the industry and can easily overcome this moment, and maybe even be the top execution environment in the space.
but they’re gonna have to support evm
